John Deere Classic - PGA Tour

Four! Golf lovers will be happy to know the Quad Cities is host of its own PGA golf tournament known as the John Deere Classic. Every July, some of professional golf’s biggest names like Jordan Spieth (2013 and 2015 Tournament Champion) and Michael Kim (2018 Tournament Champion) tee off at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois to determine who will get to hold the coveted bronze deer trophy. While golfers are battling it out on the green, visitors get to live it up with a week of live music and entertainment, golf clinics and delicious concessions.

If you’re lucky enough to join in on the festivities, consider purchasing a ticket to attend the Annual John Deere Classic Charity Concert that takes place midweek, featuring opening act and headlining performances by some of music’s greatest acts. Ticket proceeds benefit the Bonus Fund, which provides local and regional nonprofit organizations with additional support, so you’ll be doing good while having fun. The tournament takes place one week before the British Open, which is why there is a charter flight that leaves the Quad Cities as soon as the tournament ends on Sunday night, just so players can make their first swing in Britain the next morning.

Bix 7 Road Race

What began with just 84 runners in 1975, now has up to 18,000 participants every year. The Quad-City Times Bix 7 Road Race is a local tradition and main event for the Quad Cities. Held every year at the end of July, the race is not only a celebration of fitness and fun, but also a commemorative event for jazz musician Bix Bedierbecke, who was originally from Davenport, Iowa. One week after the race, the Bix Bedierbecke Memorial Jazz Festival takes place, where you can hear some of the greatest musicians in the world play and improvise jazz classics.

In addition to the 7-mile race, there is the 2-mile Quick Bix, the Jr Bix 7 for kids 12 and under, the quarter-mile Brady Street Springs uphill climb, and the Bix at 6 training series for runners who want to get in extra practice before the big day. Directly after the race is the Post-Race party held at the Quad City Times parking lot. Every year, sponsors of the Bix 7 Road Race host the party to celebrate the achievements of the participants with fun, food and drinks.
